Revolutionizing the way high school students in Marietta have been supported since 2015.
There is a pressing need for new voices in national and local dialogues concerning school reform. These new voices are the voices of the young people in our public schools—students who are considered to be successful, students who have been struggling academically, and students who have historically fallen through the cracks, often as a result of non-academic, "real-life" needs. The community of Marietta has heard the voice of its young people who identified the need for school to not only be a place where students learn academically but a place where the issues of life meet real solutions.
By empowering the voice of students, through targeted interventions which address each and every need of every student, over twenty local and statewide agencies have partnered with Marietta City Schools and Director Rona Roberts to provide in-school services related to housing, job skill development, job placement for students and families, college admission support services, psychological issues, targeted tutoring, a food pantry, and family and student counseling. An exemplar of "wrap around services," the Student Life Center has attracted state and national attention as real-world barriers which often inhibit student academic progress are being directly served each and every day for each and every high school student.
